If your week has a free weekday morning and you'd rather play than wait for a Saturday slot, there's a women's league that runs indoors at Wilding Park.
It's the Tiki Wines Women's League, run by Tennis Canterbury on Woodham Road.
How a morning works
Four players, three rounds, 30 minutes each. Leagues start at 9:30am, and the Friday group also has an 11:15am start.
That's it. No all-day commitment, and nobody stuck in a match that drags on.
When it runs
Friday mornings, during school terms, all year. Wednesday mornings run in Terms 2 and 3 only, so that one is off until next year.
Getting in
You enter through Nic at Tennis Canterbury (nic@canterburytennis.co.nz). Entries go in as a team, so a group of friends is the obvious way in. Playing solo? Ask Nic whether you can be slotted into a team.
Wilding Park has six indoor Rebound Ace courts, plus parking, a lounge and showers, which helps on a cold morning.
If you're not there yet
The league suits people who already play. If you're still getting started, the adult beginner courses are the better first step.
A league like this works if you already know three other people who play. If you don't, that's the gap Hitter is for: finding people at your level who are free when you are. More at hitter.nz.
